Naoko's New Manga
A new single story written and drawn by Naoko Takeuchi is to be included in the September 2001 edition of Nakayoshi magazine (a Kodansha publication). The story is tentatively entitled "Pretty Mecha Princess." Although slated to be a single story, some of us here believe that it may be a test for a new serial.Shortly before giving birth to a baby boy, Naoko confirmed that she intended to return to creating some sort of manga. Discussed in some Japanese circles for months, we have to thank "Sho" for finally alerting us that it could now be made public. Kodansha included an announcement of the manga in the August edition of Nakayoshi magazine.
Square/Electronic Arts has announced that the release date for
the American version of Final Fantasy X has been advanced from
February 2002 to January.
Square has also announced that main character Tidus' voice
will be performed by James Arnold Taylor (Futurama) and Yuna
will be performed by Hedy Buress (Boston Common, Gideon's Crossing).
-According to unconfirmed rumor published by Anime on DVD, in
addition to several pornographic anime titles, Image Entertainment
may now be the domestic translator and distributor of the Ai
Tenshi Densetsu Wedding Peach series.
-Although Pioneer Entertainment had originally hoped to release
it this fall, it looks like the domestic release of the Soul Taker TV
series has been delayed until next spring. A Pioneer
representative recently announced via Anime on DVD's forum
that the delay is due to getting the materials later than anticipated.
The company is currently hoping to release the show in
February 2002.
-TV Tokyo has revealed that the upcoming Final Fantasy
animated series will be titled "Final Fantasy: Unlimited" and will
debut on Japanese television on October 2nd, airing from 6:30 to 7:00 PM.
Like the Final Fantasy: Spirits Within movie, FF: Unlimited will
be set on Earth, not in any of the game worlds, and will revolve
around a male and female named Wind and Lisa, respectively,
who pursue something called "The Cloud" which, in typical RPG
fashion, destroyed Wind's hometown.
There's been no word on the animation style of the show yet,
but given Gonzo Studios' previous works including Blue Sub No. 6,
Vandread, Gatekeepers and Samurai Girl: Real Bout High School,
it's probably a safe bet to assume that Final Fantasy Unlimited
will be cel art complimented by CG effects.
-AD Vision has announced that the currently out of print Dirty
Pair Flash 2 series will be released on a single DVD titled "Dirty
Pair Flash: Angel's at World's End," on December 11th for a
retail price of $29.98.
-On October 19th at 11:00 p.m Sundance Channel will be running
"Sonic Cinema: Animators", a look at the state of animated music
films that will run from computer animation to anime.
-In light of the tragic events in New York, Washington and
Pittsburgh, the grand opening celebrations for OmochaBox in
Los Angeles has been postponed until further notice. Digital
Manga, Inc., OmochaBox's parent company, is saddened by the
tragic loss of life and feels that any celebration at this moment
would be grossly inappropriate. The store will open as planned,
but all events, including autograph sessions with Kunihiko
Ikuhara and Mari Iijima will be postponed.
-A trailer for the upcoming Inu Yasha movie is online at here
www.inuyasha-movie.com/trailer.html
-the official "Weiss Kreuz" site at Marine Entertainment is reporting
that a new TV series is currently in the works about the four
bishonen (beautiful men) who are flower shop workers and idols
of local girls by day, and assassins by night. Media Blasters is
scheduled to release the previous Weiss Kreuz TV series in October.
-Sam at www.saiyanz-rage.net has relayed a rumor stating
that AOL Time Warner has indicated that if the anime community
could get 10,000 signatures for a petition they would consider
an anime channel. The petition can be seen at here
www.petitiononline.com/agpeti/petition-sign.html
According to Anime Nation
Saiyanz Rage has contacted the Cartoon Network in response
to this unverified petition claim and received official word
from the Time Warner owned Cartoon Network that, "big
companies like AOL/Time Warner do not make decisions or
business ventures based upon petitions. Particularly online petitions."
-After a year's wait the seventh volume of the Evangelion MANGA
is nearing release in Japan from Kadokawa Shoten Pushblishing.
Two limited "first-printed" runs with be packaged with figures
of Rei and Asuka. The Evangelion MANGA is a take on the story that
differs from the anime version. It is created by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto,
the character designer of the Evangelion anime series, and other
Gainax works such as Nadia. Viz has been releasing the MANGA
domestically in a standard edition and a non-flipped edition. Because
Japanese is read right to left the images in COMICS are meant to be
viewed in that direction. Often in the English language version of
MANGA the image is mirror so that is can be followed left to right.
Dark Horse/Studio Proteus' release of Blade of the Immortal went
so far as to cut out the panels and reorder then with the help of the
series' creator Hiroaki Samura for a more precise visual translation.
Viz's special edition release of the Evangelion MANGA leaves the
panels as they appear in the Japanese release.
-Just a quick reminder that Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger, the
fourth Daft Punk video directed by Leiji Matsumoto, is now online
at Toonami Reactor. Diserning Anime fans might find some
amusement in the various outfits that the computer considers for
the band members.
-Bamboo Dong has submitted a preview of what is for many
fans the most anticipated Anime movie of the year,
Ah! Megami Sama.
